# What is XEROM?

### Xerom is the Ether-1 side chain.

Xerom is our rapid development chain, whilst Ether-1 is the mother chain that gets all the stable/proven improvements.

### How does Xerom work with Ether-1?

Xerom provides a different monetary policy as well as a different ledger for ethoFS hashes to be stored in. This allows for a more Decentralized ethoFS ecosystem as ethoFS is no longer reliant on a single chain.


# Guide: Installing the XERO Desktop Wallet on Windows.

This guide will teach you how to install the XERO Desktop Wallet on Windows.

## Downloading the wallet:

Downloading the wallet is a fairly straight forward process:

Open the Link below:

You will see a page that looks like this:

Next you're going to click on the windows .zip file to download the wallet.

Now we're going to create a new folder on our desktop for the wallet to live in, I've named mine XERO Wallet.

Once the download is complete you're going to need to extract it to the folder you've created on your desktop (NOTE: The folder can be anywhere on the computer it does not have to necessarily be the desktop, I used the desktop for ease of access. ) and extract the wallet. I recommend using WinZIP but any unzipping software will do.&#x20;

Next Simply select all the files within the zip archive and then click extract all. You will see this next:

In the image above select Desktop (Or wherever you created your folder) and then select the folder itself - in this case XERO Wallet.&#x20;

Next Click OK, once it is extracted you can close the program you used to extract the files.

Next step is to open the folder you created where you will see this:

Next we're going to launch the Desktop Wallet by clicking on  the very last file in the folder called XEROWallet.

You will then be met with this message:

For the above message simply click "Allow Access" and the wallet will start!

Congratulations You're XERO Windows Wallet is setup and ready to go! Now we need to get your Ether-1 wallets to show up in Xerom.&#x20;

## Copying your Ether-1 Wallets to work with Xerom's Wallet.

Make sure you've run the Xerom wallet once and it is now closed. Type %appdata% and open the roaming folder as shown in the image blow.

Next you'll see a list of folders, look for the folder called Ether1 Shown in the image below

Inside the Ether1 folder there is a folder called keystore&#x20;

Open the keystore folder and you'll see your list of wallets like the screenshot below.

Right Click & Copy all of you wallets, then go back to the roaming folder where you will find a folder called Xerom

Open the Xerom Folder and you will find another Keystore Folder

Open the Keystore folder, Right Click and paste your Ether-1 wallets inside the folder

Then re-open your Xerom Wallet and all your Ether-1 wallets and balances will be available.

# Guide: Installing the XERO Desktop Wallet on OSX.

This guide will teach you how to install the XERO Desktop Wallet on OSX.

Downloading the wallet is a fairly straight forward process:

Next you're going to click on the windows .dmg file to download the wallet.

Once downloaded, double-click on the file and drag the **XEROWallet** app into the **Applications** folder

If you receive the error below, you will need to temporarily disable the software verification system on your macOS system to launch XEROWallet for the first time. Xerom will work on procuring such a license at a future date.

To remedy the issue run the command below to temporarily disable the identified developer check

Open a **Terminal** window by pressing **Command + Space** bar shortcut and typing Terminal

Once a new Terminal window opens, issue the following command followed by your account's password.

```
sudo spctl --master-disable
```

You'll now be able to launch the XEROWallet app and authorize its first time execution

As soon as the app is open you can go back into your terminal and type the following command to re-enable the verification check.

```
sudo spctl --master-enable
```

The application will now launch and present you with the menu where you will import your wallets

## Importing XERO wallets:

The first thing you'll want to do is import your XERO wallets. You can import your XERO wallet backups and you can also import your ETHO wallets which contain funds from the ETHO>XERO genesis funds (read more here: <https://medium.com/@Ether1Official/xerom-decentralized-by-nature-c3ef0383d683>)

There are 2 ways to import your wallet:

* **Using your XERO/ETHO private key.**
  * Your private key looks something like **07c65b30c9bf9305edb323f75ab79b51ef438a75ad2a86d5d0bbad4690a9880f**
* **Using your XERO/ETHO UTC/JSON file and its associates password**
  * Your UTC/JSON file is an actual file with a long name, including your XERO address
  * Your UTC/JSON file password is a string of characters which decrypts your UTC file. The UTC file password is not the same thing as your private key

## Importing your Ether-1 Wallets to Xerom

Make Sure you have run the Xerom wallet one time and it is now closed. Next, On your desktop press CMD+SHIFT+L to open the Library folder.

Locate a file called Ether-1 Inside Ether1 there is a folder called keystore

Copy all the files in side the keystore folder and then return to the library folder.

Now look for the folder called Xerom. Inside Xerom there will be another folder called keystore simply paste the wallets you copied from Ether1/keystore into Xerom/keystore.

### Importing Private Key:

Simply paste your private key and choose your UTC/JSON file password.  A UTC/JSON file will be created in the default directory located at:

**\~/Library/Xerom/keystore**\
(Open Finder > Go > Go to folder... > paste above)

### Importing UTC file:

Simply click on the import wallet icon and select your UTC/JSON file.  You will not be asked for your UTC/JSON file password until you attempt to transfer funds.  This is a good way to keep track of funds without compromising your UTC/JSON file password.

# Setting up Xerom Nodes

# Uninstalling Xerom Nodes

Removing nodes and getting your stake back

### Introduction <a href="#introduction" id="introduction"></a>

Removing the Xerom node services and data is as simple as disabling the services and deleting the application data. When you disable the services, they still exist on your system but they are not executed upon reboot.

This guide assumes you installed the Xerom Node software as the *Xero* user. If you installed the software as a different user, adjust the instructions accordingly, specifically on the last step replace */xero/* with the username for your *Xero* user.

If you're using Unit/Frontier to manage your node, simply delete it within Unit/Frontier and proceed to the [step which retrieves your stake](/node-setup/uninstalling-xerom-nodes#retrieving-your-state).

### Disable Ether-1 Services <a href="#disable-ether-1-services" id="disable-ether-1-services"></a>

Regardless of which node you're running, executing all the following commands will disable all Xerom Node services.

```
sudo systemctl stop xerochainnode
sudo systemctl disable xerochainnode
sudo systemctl stop xeronode
sudo systemctl disable xeronode
sudo systemctl stop xerolinknode
sudo systemctl disable xerolinknode
sudo systemctl stop xerosupernode
sudo systemctl disable xerosupernode
```

### Delete Application Data <a href="#delete-application-data" id="delete-application-data"></a>

Delete all chain data by executing:

```
rm -rf /home/xero/.xerom/*
```

### Reversing The Process <a href="#reversing-the-process" id="reversing-the-process"></a>

If you've changed your mind and want to run the Xerom Node (regardless of type), you can reverse the whole process and return into a fully synchronized and running node by executing:

```
sudo systemctl enable xerochainnode
sudo systemctl start xerochainnode
sudo systemctl enable xeronode
sudo systemctl start xeronode
sudo systemctl enable xerolinknode
sudo systemctl start xerolinknode
sudo systemctl enable xerosupernode
sudo systemctl start xerosupernode
```

### Checking Xerom Service Status

Whether you've decided to stick with your decision to disable the Xerom Node services or decided to enable them again, you can use the commands below to determine their status.

Make sure the Xerom processes are either running or not running by executing:

```
sudo journalctl -f -u xero
```

You should see no records indicating activity if the services are disabled. If you see activity, the services are running.

You can also check the operational status of the Xerom Node services by executing:

```
sudo systemctl status xerochainnode
sudo systemctl status xeronode
sudo systemctl status xerolinknode
sudo systemctl status xerosupernode
```

### Retrieving your State

#### Using the Web Wallet (easiest)

Navigate over to <https://wallet.xerom.org>

Select the **Contracts** tab, select the **Xerom** network, select the node type you’re activating and select **access**

Select the function to **remove node**, fill out your private key, **login** and **write** the contract.  This will immediately refund your stake to your wallet.  Contact us in Discord if you do not receive your stake within a minute.
